Jan Hanson is an acupuncturist, nutritionist and author whose private practice focuses on women's health and temperament issues in children.
She is co-author of Mother Nurture: A Mother's Guide to Health in Body, Mind, and Relationships (Penguin, 2002). Another short book that Jan is currently writing is for parents of children with mood and temperament challenges.
Jan has made her mark as a leading authority on how to nutritionally rebalance and heal the body, through her deep understanding of the body's chemistry and the chemistry of foods.
Her work focuses on people who want to lose weight, who have certain internal conditions that medical doctors can't "fix," and on the nutritional needs of children whose mood and temperament need stabilizing.
She is deeply knowledgeable about attachment parenting and the growing research on nutritional medicine; her work centers on sensible, alternative approaches to restoring good health, minimizing mood swings, and raising energy levels in both adults and children.
In 1997, Jan became a licensed acupuncturist and began her private practice. She frequently speaks at schools and clubs for mothers on the health and nutrition of mothers, children, and adolescents. For many years, she and her husband co-authored a column in the Marin Family News called Family Matters.
Jan wrote "Nutritional Neurochemistry," published as a special section for the upcoming book Buddha's Brain, by Rick Hanson (October 2009, New Harbinger Press). This section guides readers to diet and nutrient interventions that help improve brain function and well-being.
Jan presents workshops on family health and holistic approaches to childhood illnesses.
